Events for Travelers in Denmark for 2010

Winterjazz - January 22 - February 7
What could be better than listening to world-class jazz on a winter night? And where better to do it than in Denmark - a nation of jazz lovers? (Yes, it’s true!) During Winterjazz - the counterpart of Copenhagen’s renowned summer Jazz Festival - venues large and small throughout Denmark are filled with the sounds of jazz played by musicians from around the world. This year’s highlight is a 100th birthday tribute to guitar legend Django Reinhardt at Copenhagen’s beautiful new DR Koncerthuset designed by architect Jean Nouvel.

Copenhagen Fashion Festival - February 10-14
While fashion industry insiders gather at Copenhagen’s Bella Center for the Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (Feb. 11-14), the public will have its own peek at the runway during the Copenhagen Fashion Festival. Look for fashion events and shows all over the city - previous venues have included the Danish Design Centre, the Royal Copenhagen Flagship Store and the city’s famed Conditori La Glace bakery - plus special sales and activities at many of the city’s top fashion retailers. CPH:PIX Film Festival - April 15-25
The new annual CPH:PIX film festival is the result of a merger between Copenhagen’s two major film festivals, the Copenhagen International Film Festival and the NatFilm Festival - and joining forces has made them stronger. CPH:PIX is dedicated to showcasing the best new films from around the world, with a special emphasis on emerging filmmakers. Almost all films selected for screening debuted after Jan. 1, 2009, and have not been shown in Denmark previously. The highlight of the competition is the New Talent Grand Prix, open to first-time full-length feature film directors, which brings with it a 50,000 euro prize for the winner. Copenhagen Architecture + Design Days - May 6-9
Created to showcase the best of Danish architecture past and present, CPH ADD invites the public to tour some of the most remarkable buildings in Copenhagen - some of which are not open to public view at any other time. The 2009 program included guided tours of the innovative new Tietgenkollegiet student dormitories in the Ørestad section of the city, the opportunity to visit with local architects and designers, architectural walking tours of the city’s most dynamic neighborhoods and much more. This is a must for anyone with a passion for beautiful buildings! Read more about Copenhagen Architecture + Design days
Across the Øresund Bridge Race - June 12
When the Øresund Bridge linking Copenhagen with Malmø, Sweden, opened in 2000, more than 80,000 runners marked the day with a 21.1 km (13.1-mile) run across the bridge. So to mark the bridge’s 10th anniversary they’re going to do it again! The 10th anniversary Across the Øresund Bridge Race will be limited to 30,000 participants, but the festivities will be open to everyone who cares to join in at the starting line in Denmark’s Kastrup Strandpark and at the finish line in Malmø. Can’t make the race? You can still cross the bridge any time you like. The train ride from Copenhagen Central Station to Malmø Central Station takes just 30 minutes.
